Showcases: "BuckEye"

IAVO Research and Scientific is currently under contract with the US Army Topographic Engineering Center (TEC) to produce BuckEye derived-color digital orthophotos to support improvised explosive device detection and other military operations. We are leading a team of highly qualified individuals utilizing GeoGenesis™ to perform radiometric balancing, softcopy aerotriangulation, and orthophoto production.

The BuckEye system enables a commander to visualize threats on the battlefield by producing high-resolution pictures of an area from a variety of vantage points. The system has been deployed in Iraq by TEC. One example of the system’s success was in support of the October 2005 elections in Iraq, where it helped increase security throughout the area of operations.

In August 2006, IAVO Research and Scientific began production of high resolution ortho-mosaics in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. To meet the challenges of exploiting Buckeye's high resolution sensor data in the necessary timelines we employed GeoGenesis™ in our production facility. GeoGenesis™ provides the functionality necessary to handle thousands of images in a single project without the overhead of expensive and cumbersome photogrammetric workstations. As our production tasks increase we continue to develop additional capabilities to increase bandwidth and reduce production timelines. Included in these capabilities are:

  • Batch import of thousands of unrectified images and support data
  • Batch camera calibration file generation
  • Automated tie point extraction
  • Supplemental control point extraction from LIDAR
  • Bundle adjustment (X,Y,Z, omega, phi, kappa)
  • Batch orthophoto generation
  • Automated radiometric balancing
  • QA/QC
  • Project report generation

Using GeoGenesis™ we are able to satisfy requirements for rapid and cost-effective production of Buckeye digital orthophotos. We continue to augment capabilities within GeoGenesis with each new task and are expanding to include these capabilties for application on a broader scope of geospatial imagery.
